Monte Sano Cookout & Campout

Our annual Monte Sano Cookout & Campout usually takes place the first or second weekend in September. This is our first big event of the year and is a great time to come see what Cub Scouting is all about!

We also do a recycled Raingutter Regatta where the cubs build the regatta’s at Monte Sano and race them that day.

After the Regatta, we have our Cookout with everyone chiping in with a side or dessert to share on the top of Monte Sano, with a great view overlooking Huntsville below.

When we’ve had our fill, it’s time to work off some of those calories with a short hike. One of our intrepid Den Leaders usually has the route lined up and all are invited to enjoy the walk.

Once everything from lunch is cleaned up, those who are staying for the campout move their vehicles to the campsite. We usually enjoy a campfire, giving scouts an opportunity to show off their skits and jokes, roast marshmallows, and just enjoy time together.

The next morning begins with a flag ceremony and a time of reverence, followed by breakfast. If there’s enough interest, we’ll enjoy another short hike before breaking camp and heading back to civilization.
